Hiking Trails

The best way to explore Lahemaa’s nature is to set aside enough time, pack comfortable hiking gear, and embark on discovering the local hiking and nature trails. Lahemaa’s trails vary in difficulty and character – from one-to-two-hour bog loops and the 45 km Oandu-Ikla hiking trail to a rocky kilometer leading to Purekkari Cape, the northernmost tip of mainland Estonia. The forests of Käsmu peninsula invite exploration both on foot and by bike. Lahemaa is also traversed by the E11 long-distance hiking trail, whose Baltic section is known as the Forest Hiking Trail, and which begins in the city of Scheveningen in the Netherlands and ends in Tallinn.

For Lahemaa’s hiking trails, we recommend bringing a guide, whom you can find here.

When venturing into nature, always ensure that your impact on the environment is limited to your presence. Sort any packaging and used napkins according to waste management rules. Keep the hiking trails in Lahemaa clean!

Fatbike cycling tour in Valkla

Fatbike tour in the Valkla area and beach in Northern Estonia is a pleasant journey or climb over hilly dunes.

The rocky beach areas offer technical carving and the excitement of crossing water. After passing through the beach strip, we head into the forest, then onto the road, and traverse the colorful and beautiful village of Kaberneeme. A pause is made at the tip of the peninsula, after which we return through the village to the beachside forest, where the interesting crisscrossing hilly bike paths will make any cyclist’s eyes light up, and at the same time, it is possible to see the beach view from a slightly different angle.

The service can be booked for groups starting from 12 people.

Forest Adventure "Christmas Anticipation in Nature" with family or team

Put on your hat and come on a forest adventure – the anticipation of Christmas in nature is much cooler than standing in line at the shopping mall!

We will wander through the Kaberneeme peninsula and the spruce forests of Lahemaa, searching for the perfect Christmas tree (you can buy it with the RMK app if you wish), exploring forest life, and reading fresh animal tracks: fox, hare, roe deer. Along the way, we will stop at “Mägratänav,” listen to the guide’s stories, and learn simple nature wisdom tips: how to understand from the tracks what animals eat and why the winter forest needs peace.

During the break, we will light a fire and brew raspberry stem tea – and if the weather wants to put on a show, we will move our stories to an Indian teepee. You will take away ideas on how to make Christmas a little greener (and a little funnier): less plastic, more real experiences.

This is a lovely event for family, friends, and work colleagues; well-behaved dogs are also welcome. Put on warm boots and bring gloves – we will take care of the rest.

Guided bus tour to Lahemaa National Park and Palmse Manor

Spend an exciting day in peaceful and unspoiled nature, where the charming atmosphere of the countryside prevails. During the trip, you will visit one of the oldest and largest national parks – Lahemaa, where moose, foxes, and lynxes live. You will see the magnificent, untouched forests of the North Estonian coast and enjoy the sound of the wind and the sea.

On the tour, we will explore the Palmse Manor, dating back to the 13th century, the historically rich former fishing village of Käsmu, and enjoy the splendor and beauty of Estonia’s highest natural waterfall – Jägala Waterfall. Or we can take a walk in the Viru Bog.

The excursion includes guided service, transportation, lunch, and entrance to the Käsmu Maritime Museum and Palmse Manor.

Guided hike in Viru bog

A beautiful bog landscape with glades, stunted pines, and a viewing tower awaits your hike!

My childhood home is in this area. Although there was no hiking trail in Viru bog back then, our family used to come here to pick berries and mushrooms, and my father had work-related matters. Now there is a lovely hiking trail where you can comfortably explore Viru bog. There is a path through a nice pine forest, a winding boardwalk between picturesque glades, a viewing tower, and a picnic area near the Kalmeoja parking lot.

All this awaits discovery with a guide!

Guided hiking tour "Forest Life in Winter"

The winter forest does not sleep – it simply acts quietly. On the guided walking tour “Forest Life in Winter,” we learn to read the forest like detectives: tracks in the snow, chewed pine cones, woodpecker work sites, a rabbit’s “expressway,” and that one mysterious depression that makes you wonder: did a moose pass through here or just a very confident dog?

During the hike, we search for and interpret the signs of animal and bird activity, talk about the winter food table and survival tips (without the drama of a hero movie), and practice how to move in nature so that our presence is polite. We take a nice break: warm tea and a little “silence challenge” – 2 minutes of quiet to hear how much the forest actually has to say.

The hike is suitable for families, adults, and groups/teams of friends. The pace is calm and adjustable, the focus is on the experience and the skill of noticing afterwards: who passed through here at night, where they went, and why. Dress in layers and bring gloves.

At the end, we have a small “track quiz”: who left this mark and where were they hurrying to? We will also prepare campfire food.
