Hiking Trails

The best way to explore Lahemaa’s nature is to set aside enough time, pack comfortable hiking gear, and embark on discovering the local hiking and nature trails. Lahemaa’s trails vary in difficulty and character – from one-to-two-hour bog loops and the 45 km Oandu-Ikla hiking trail to a rocky kilometer leading to Purekkari Cape, the northernmost tip of mainland Estonia. The forests of Käsmu peninsula invite exploration both on foot and by bike. Lahemaa is also traversed by the E11 long-distance hiking trail, whose Baltic section is known as the Forest Hiking Trail, and which begins in the city of Scheveningen in the Netherlands and ends in Tallinn.

For Lahemaa’s hiking trails, we recommend bringing a guide, whom you can find here.

When venturing into nature, always ensure that your impact on the environment is limited to your presence. Sort any packaging and used napkins according to waste management rules. Keep the hiking trails in Lahemaa clean!

We invite you to explore Lahemaa as a meeting place of sea and land – a place where the heritage of coastal villages, bogs, and rocky beaches form a cohesive whole, and human culture is closely linked to the sea. We will start the day with a guided walk in the Viru bog, where we will walk along the boardwalk, make stops at viewing platforms, and hear the stories of the bog. Afterwards, we will visit the Tammispea giant boulder – a powerful glacial erratic that brings thoughts of the traces of the Ice Age. Next, we will head to the traditional fishing village of Natturi, which feels like a small museum with its atmosphere and details. If desired, we can enjoy traditional Estonian dishes at a local tavern or visit the abandoned Soviet-era submarine base in Harala.

The day in Lahemaa lasts 8 hours. Transport available for an additional fee.

Aegviidu Blue Springs
In Estonia, springs have always been considered important sacred places, most of them believed to have healing properties, and silver coins were thrown into the spring as offerings. Aegviidu Siniallikad is known as an ancient sacrificial spring and got its name due to its distinctive blue hue, which is caused by the blue clay settled in the area.

Aegviidu Siniallikad is a group of rising water springs located in the Kõrvemaa Landscape Protection Area. The blue springs bring water to the surface in a basin between the ridges, where the spring lake is located. The blue springs are situated at the edge of the Kauksi-Aegviidu-Penijõe hiking trail, and the best time to visit the springs is during high water.
