Hiking Trails

The best way to explore Lahemaa’s nature is to set aside enough time, pack comfortable hiking gear, and embark on discovering the local hiking and nature trails. Lahemaa’s trails vary in difficulty and character – from one-to-two-hour bog loops and the 45 km Oandu-Ikla hiking trail to a rocky kilometer leading to Purekkari Cape, the northernmost tip of mainland Estonia. The forests of Käsmu peninsula invite exploration both on foot and by bike. Lahemaa is also traversed by the E11 long-distance hiking trail, whose Baltic section is known as the Forest Hiking Trail, and which begins in the city of Scheveningen in the Netherlands and ends in Tallinn.

For Lahemaa’s hiking trails, we recommend bringing a guide, whom you can find here.

When venturing into nature, always ensure that your impact on the environment is limited to your presence. Sort any packaging and used napkins according to waste management rules. Keep the hiking trails in Lahemaa clean!

Sunset sea kayak trip to Pedassaar

The evening kayak ride from Valkla Beach to Pedassaar is a delightful activity to end the day. Pedassaar is the highest island in Kolga Bay in Lahemaa National Park, with beautiful sandy beaches and pine forests.

On the island, we visit a former forest watch site, and the island’s northern shore has a very good view of the rest of the Gulf of Kolga islands. We look at the traces of the encroaching sea, examine the boulders in the water, and watch the sunset. The visibility of the sunset depends on the weather, but even in cloudy weather, you can see a play of colors in the western sky.

The service includes initial training, kayaking equipment, a light meal, and a guide service.

Palmse Nunnery Boulders

You will find the Palmse Nunnery Boulders on the right side of the road behind the walls of Palmse Manor when driving from the direction of Viitna.

This is a group of 14 erratic boulders with a circumferance of more than 10 metres and many smaller boulders that were formed when larger boulders broke apart upon the melting of glacial ice. They have been named after a nunnery that was located on the same site in the 15th century.

According to legend the Almighty turned all the nuns who went to meet with the Devil into stone.

Pariisi tervise- ja suusarajad

Soojal ajal saad end proovile panna 5 km pikkusel jooksu- või rattarajal ning lõbusalt aega veeta 18 korviga discgolfipargis.

Kõik vajaliku saad mugavalt laenutada lähedalasuvast Pariisi puhkekülast – seal ootavad Sind matka-, suusa- ja uisuvarustus, jalgrattad, discgolfi kettad ja palju muud.

Pedassaare matkarada

Energy Track

The Energy Track winds its way through places where you will feel on top of the world and truly recharge your batteries. The track is 1.7 km long and starts and ends by the Porkuni Limestone Museum in Küngassaare. It skirts Lake Porkuni before heading into the forest of the local manor park, which may have changed a lot over time but still retains some of the exotic bushes and trees planted here during the manor era. One of the most amazing sights along the track is Porkuni’s limestone outcrop. You will also pass the head of the Valgejõe River, karst features and more. The track is marked with information stands.

Puhta vee teemapargi retk "Hakkamasaaja looduses" koos loodusgiidiga

Clean Water Theme Park

Puhta vee teemapark or Clean Water Theme Park is a science park that concentrates on topics related to clean water; here, you find answers to questions, such as how clean groundwater is generated, how life depends on clean water, or what alters the quality of water.

The theme park and its office are located on Pandivere uplands, on the area in Pandivere and Adavere-Põltsamaa that is sensitive to nitrates.

The theme park conveys the message of psychologist Tõnu Ots: ‘The Creator hid all of the world’s wisdom in the nature – our wisdom is to find it.’

The price for a programme instructor’s services is 54 euros per hour (in case of groups of more than 20 people, two instructors are required, and accordingly, the price is 108 euros per hour).

Purekkari Cape and camping area

Purekkari Cape is the northernmost point of mainland Estonia.

The 1.5 km long rocky, boulder-strewn cape is located in Lahemaa National Park. The cape ends with a small island, which is only accessible when the water level is low. The thorny wild rose bushes are particularly eye-catching when in bloom during summer and when they have bright red fruit in autumn. Many migratory birds pass by here, making it a popular birdwatching spot.

Near the cape are former military installations and the Purekkari camping area, which is equipped with a campfire site, shelter, and information boards.

NB! The road to the parking lot is narrow and cannot be accessed by large buses.
